Arc’teryx - Blowing up out of nowhere?

    in CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES

Guess I’m going to be the one to break the ice lol. To preface, I’m not super in tune with a lot of trends with fashion, but the rise of Arc’teryx has been something hard to ignore.

I’ve been wondering if this rise has been due to anything/anyone? This trend has seemed to have no bounds, as I’ve seen the usually trendy people wearing it, what appears to be people who would have no ideas about trends in fashion, and even members of pop punk bands.

It seems like they’re just an expensive outdoors brand, so my first thought was that this was just a natural transition when most people were wearing Carhartt, so it was sort of on to the next outdoors brand, although Arc seems like more of a tech wear brand from the pieces I’ve seen.

Thoughts/opinions on where Arc’teryx has gotten or where they’re going? Or why?

The whole trend about the beading is hard to ignore, and they do seem like great jackets. Hate the logo to death though lol

If I’m not mistaken, a catalyst for it was Drake and Virgil rocking it plus “Hike Core” popping off over the first quarantine. Peep original Life of the Party Kanye lyrics for the Drake x Virgil callout haha

Oh I gotcha. I figured it was something like that, but with the wide net of different people I’ve seen wearing it I just wasn’t sure where it could have started. Just read about the creative director responding to the hype saying they will not become a “fashion company” and it’s going to stay all about functionality. I’m interested to see if that stays, or they chase the cash.

They got Nicole McLaughlin as their first “ambassador” so they’re definitely utilizing this moment to tap into the internet scene but honestly good for them! They’ve been around for ages

One hundred percent agree with what was said about Virgil and Drake wearing the jackets at the Nike show. I’m pretty sure for the Off-White FW20 show Virgil also spliced up some Arc’teryx jackets with tulle dresses. I personally like the brand, the prices are for sure intimidating, to me at least lmao

Yeah definitely out of my price range personally, but they do look like amazing quality. If I had a use for outdoor clothing like that more, then maybe? But still probably not.

You know it’s hilarious I was just ranting about this earlier. I’ve been like an outdoors guy/camper my whole life and like no one ever has Arc unless they’re exploring the fucking Yukon or their rich. Just seems like a load of bullshit for people to show off their money without having to ever actually touch the woods. But what do I know 12 years of scouts taught me nothing

Lmao, I heard that it’s been a popular brand with people who ski and snowboard and also have money. That’s how a lot of brands are though. As someone who wears carhartt as my actual work wear, I always felt similarly. Don’t wanna gatekeep it though, cause it is quality stuff imo. And also with carhartt wip, it’s not necessarily the same, since it is streetwear. Or just fun patterns/colors and a fatter price tag 🥴

When I was in Arizona everyone who was big in the climbing scene wore Arcteryx because of quality and durability. I know that a lot of them are mad now because it is getting clout lorded. I have a couple pieces and can’t deny that they are nice quality (if getting for the right price.) Outlets are really the only place to get the good prices for them or else might as well get anything else. I got one of their huge parkas (i hate the cold Im a west coast kid) for under 300 and it was an 800 coat so that was the only reason I felt okay pulling the trigger. Especially cuz i didn’t have a quality down jacket. But I think it’s funny because it is something alot of dads in 50s wear and now people in 20s and 30s are wearing it similar to Carhartt. Has like 2 different target audiences now while still being the same company. Also not sure if any of you have heard of their “luxury brand” Veilance but I know some people with that as well

I have a buddy who has one of their lightweight jackets. I think Veilance is their fashion brand but it’s mad expensive
