As 2023 begins, we've decided to set the tone for the new year. We are proud to announce our Limited Edition Rothco® MA-1 "Virgin Mary" Bomber Jacket, with original airbrush artwork by Sha.
The history of the Bomber Jacket goes back to 1917, as World War One pilots used them to keep warm in the often uninsulated, open air cockpits of the early fighter planes, which would oftentimes get frigid while flying. In 1927, the A-1 was introduced, which featured a knit waistband and cuffs, laying the foundation for the Bomber Jacket we are used to seeing in menswear today –as it was for style, not just utility, speaking to the longevity that the jacket has upheld.
The Brigade MA-1 is reversible, paying homage to the original World War One Era Bomber Jacket. The fluorescent colored inside of the bomber jackets you’d see from that era were not for flash, but rather for utility, as pilots would flip their jacket inside out if their plane went down, as a means of being found from the sky easier. Enhanced nylon with DWR coating, this jacket will keep you warm and dry, when the elements might have other ideas. Made In USA Dog Tags and button pins for your own styling are featured alongside the hand printed artwork on the back. We have an affinity towards the “wabi sabi” approach, embracing the “flaws” the back of each jacket has from the hand printed artwork. This is one of our most unique pieces to date, with each jacket truly being a one of one garment.
